In among the flower beds where we slept with our heads resting upon the petals of the lilies our dreams had a tendency to evaporate in the morning sunshine but they were so soon replaced by other dreams that it was as if someone was trying to make us believe that everything in our lives was good but we could not even begin to figure out who that someone might be.

(this poem for you) it is to look back
on dark months of a year, August until
November, and to begin by saying how
if ever you look into a dictionary
for the meaning of the word “absence”
it will say August 19th until November 24th
and an emptiness that seemed endless.
