I search for something in the writing that moves me in a certain way…… I can go no further than to say that poetry feeds the imagination and prose the emotions, poetry liberates the words from their emotional implications, prose confirms them in it.

To writing poems about birds: the kindly kite, the harried hawk,
The sprightly sparrow, the pilgrim plover, the galling gull

At crack of dawn (it gets later each day it seems)
I fell asleep to attend a stranger’s I don’t know whose wedding feast
With people from my childhood grown not old

For I was without appetite and in midst of health concerns —
Well glad I was when alarm did its morning thing

And not their own. Lucius says
His girlfriend’s parents are imbeciles.
But you should see him:
He knows next to nothing about lepidoptery. (I ask you!)

You know the gods are against you when the ice cream catches fire.
